7.  What did Esther order him to do concerning Mordecai? vs. 5 to know what it was, and why it was.
8.  Hathach went out to Mordecai to the city square in front of the king's gate and Mordecai told him all that had happened to him, and the exact amount of money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the destruction of the Jews. (vs.6,7) ... What did he give him a copy of to show Esther to inform her? vs. 8a the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan
9.  What did Mordecai want Esther to do concerning it? vs. 8b  she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
10.  Hathach came back and told Esther what Mordecai had said.  What did Esther order him to say back to him? All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death,

17.  What would Esther and her maidens do as well? vs. 15b They would fasted also.

19.  How did Mordecai respond to her request? vs. 17 all that Esther had commanded him
Application:
20.  Esther feared facing the king without being summoned for it could mean instant death to her.  We are told in the Bible that no man can look upon God and live.  We would have the same thing happen to us if we tried to access the throne of God without His Scepter of favor welcoming us.  Sin cannot be in the presence of God, but if we come through Jesus, we come in His righteousness.  Jesus is our Scepter of Favor to draw near to the throne of God.  Comment on the following Scriptures:
  • Exodus 33:19,20 -
  • John 1:18 -
  • 1 Timothy 6:15,16 -
  • John 14:6 -
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21 -
  • Hebrews 4:16 -
  • Hebrews 10:19 -
  • Titus 3:4-7 -
21.  Mordecai wanted Esther to realize that her coming from being a Jewish orphan to the Queen of Persia could be her purpose to be used to save her people... "for such a time as this."... Do we realize the same thing about our individual lives?  God had a purpose for our family, our location, and every circumstance we find ourselves in.  Even when times are dark and uncertain, we can know that God is going to use us if we are willing to be His Ambassador on His Mission.  Comment on the following Scriptures:
  • Ecclesiastes 3:1 -
  • Psalm 139:15,16 -
  • Ephesians 2:10 -
  • Matthew 28:18-20 -
  • John 17:15-18
  • Acts 1:8 -
  • Galatians 2:20 -
  • Colossians 4:5 -
  • 1 Peter 2:9 -
  • Titus 2:11-14 -
  • Romans 8:28 -
  • Romans 10:14 -
  • 2 Corinthians 5:20 -
  • 1 Thessalonians 2:4 -
  • 2 Corinthians 6:1,2 -
22.  Esther asked that the Jews gather to fast for her.  Fasting always involved prayer although the word prayer is not mentioned.  That would be the purpose for it.  On the 3rd day, she would go to the king and hope he would extend the golden scepter to her.  She would ask that her people be saved.  Her resolve was ... "If I perish, I perish." ... This is the point we must come to; where we are willing to abandon it all, including our lives for the sake of the Gospel.  The world is full of people who are still under a death sentence and they need a Savior.  Will we risk our comforts and safety to tell them how to be saved for eternity?
  • Luke 9:23-25 -
  • Acts 20:24 -
  • 2 Corinthians 4:7-12 -
  • 2 Corinthians 5:14,15 -
  • Galatians 2:20 -
  • Galatians 5:24 -
  • Philippians 1:21 -
  • I John 3:16 -
23. Mordecai obviously knew the promises of God from the Old Covenant of the Law of Moses for God promised there would always be a nation.  He told Esther that if she did not step forward and seize the moment, deliverance for the Jews would arise from another place.  This is true for us in our gifts and callings as well.  God will move forward calling His followers and bringing His plan of the ages, but we have the opportunity in our sphere of time and location to be co-workers with Him for the sake of the Gospel; we can even hasten His coming by working with Him in the fields that are white for harvest!  Who is in?  I know I want to be!
  • 2 Corinthians 6:2 -
  • John 6:37-39 -
  • John 10:27,28 -
  • 2 Timothy 4:5 -
  • 1 Corinthians 3:9 -
  • 2 Corinthians 6:1 -
  • Luke 10:2 -
  • John 4:35 -
  • Matthew 24:14 -
  • 2 Peter 3:12 -
  • 1 Thessalonians 2:19,20 -
24.  Summarize this lesson and post a prayer if you would like.
Then entered the bad guy of the story, Haman, who was promoted far beyond his level of competence, and it all went to his head. Haman got the king to order all to bow to him, but there was one man who refused to do so, Mordecai the Jew.  This refusal angered Haman so much that he not only wanted Mordecai put to death, but the entire Jewish race!  He tricked Ahasuerus into ordering the death of the Jewish people, resulting in confusion throughout the city.  When Mordecai read the order of the king to exterminate the Jews, he immediately went into mourning with sackcloth and ashes.

It dawned on Mordecai that perhaps God was at work through all of this, and had elevated his cousin to the place where she was “for such a time as this,” and perhaps she could convince the king to stop this slaughter. She took a bold step of faith and went before the King unbidden, yet he pardoned her rather than having her put to death for her trespass. She had an unusual request of the king, for him and Haman to come to a feast she had prepared. Ahasuerus knew something else was up, though, and that Esther wouldn’t have risked her life unless it was for a crucial reason.

chapter 3 of Esther

EstherheQueen-1
Esther Chapter 3
1.  Who did King Ahasuerus promote to be over all his princes with him? vs. 1 Haman
2.  Haman was a descendant of Agag.  Who was that person in Israel's history?  Comment on
  • 1 Samuel 15:32,33 -   Amalekites
  • Exodus 17:14-16 -Amalek
3.  What had the king commanded be done and how did the king's servants at his gate respond to Haman? vs. 2 They were to kneel down and pay  honor to him.
4.  What did Esther's Uncle Mordecai, a Jew, refuse to do concerning Haman? vs. 2 kneel down.
5.  The king's servants asked Mordecai why he was transgressing the king's command. (vs.3) ... They spoke to him daily about this and he would not listen to them. (vs.4) ... What reason had he given them that they told Haman about? vs. 4 He told  them  he was a Jew.
6.  When Haman realized that Mordecai would not bow down and pay homage to him, how did he feel about it? vs. 5 Angry
7.  He did not want to lay hands on Mordecai alone.  What group of people did he decide he wanted destroyed throughout the whole kingdom of King Ahasuerus? vs. 6 The Jews
8.  In the first month (Nisan) in the 12th year of the reign of King Ahasuerus, the lot called Pur was cast before Haman to determine when he would destroy the Jews. (vs.7).  What month was determined that this would happen? vs. 7  the twelfth month, the month of Adar.
9.  What did Haman say about the Jewish people to King Ahasuerus to cause him to agree that they should not remain in his kingdom? vs. 8 - Name 2 things said about them. - 1) keep themselves separate
2) Their customs are different from those of all other people, and they do not obey the king’s laws
10.  What did Haman say he would pay to those who would carry out the order of the king to destroy all of the Jews? vs. 9  ten thousand talentsb of silver
11.  What did the king say to Haman and what did he give him to use as authority to carry out the task? vs. 10,11 - 1)  signet ring
 2) Do with  them as you please.

12.  The king's scribes were summoned on the 13th day of the 1st month, and a letter was written just as Haman commanded to every satrap and governor of every province of each people in their own language, written with the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed with his ring. (vs.13) ... The letters were sent by couriers to all the king's provinces.  What day was proclaimed to be the day of slaughter to destroy, kill, and annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, women and children included? vs. 13
the thirteenth day of the twelfth month
13.  A copy of the edict to be issued as law in every province was published to all the peoples so that they should be ready for this day. (vs.14) ... While the king and Haman sat down to drink at the citadel in Susa, what did the people of the city of Susa experience? vs. 15  was bewildered.
Applications:
14.  Haman had hate in his heart for the Jews or he would not have wanted the whole race destroyed based on the anger he felt toward the one man, Mordecai. The devil often makes other people really hate God’s people. This is because God’s people love God and Satan is God's arch enemy.  What does the Bible teach us about "hate" and "anger"?
15.  It is amazing that just "one" man would cause an entire race to be destroyed, but that happened to the human race as well when the first man created, Adam, chose to disobey God.  Adam's sin brought about spiritual death to all mankind.  We know that Esther will change the course for the Jewish people as their mediator before the king, but better still God sent His Only Son to step into this world and take our death sentence upon Himself and redeem us from the sentence passed upon us.  When we receive His sacrifice and acknowledge Him as Lord, we are saved.  Read and comment on the Scriptures below.  These will help you share the road of salvation with others as well.
A.  Adam's sin - death passed to all.
  • Genesis 2:16,17 -
  • Genesis 3:12,13 -
  • Romans 5:12-21 -
  • Romans 3:23 -
  • Romans 6:23 -
  • 1 Corinthians 15:21,22,45,49 -
  • 2 Corinthians 11:3 -
B.  God's solution - Christ died for all.
  • John 1:29 -
  • John 3:16,17 -
  • Acts 13:38 -
  • Romans 5:8 -
  • Romans 6:23 -
  • Ephesians 1:7 -
  • Ephesians 2:8,9 -
  • 1 Corinthians 6:20 -
  • 1 Corinthians 7:23 -
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 -
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21 -
  • Hebrews 2:14 -
  • Hebrews 7:27 -
  • Hebrews 9:12 -
  • Hebrews 9:24-28 -
  • Hebrews 10:10-12 -
C.  Our salvation from the death decree - We must receive the gift of eternal life.
  • John 1:29 -
  • John 14:6 -
  • Acts 2:38 -
  • Acts 4:12 -
  • Acts 13:38 -
  • Romans 6:23 -
  • Romans 10:9-13 -
  • 1 Peter 3:18 -
  • 1 John 1:9 -
  • Revelation 3:20 -
16.  When the Persians cast "Pur", it was dice, and it may seem like the date they came up with to destroy the Jews was by chance.  However, God is behind the casting of lots called "pur".  The day is determined for destruction.  God will have the final say regarding His people the Jews.  They had almost a year before the day of death was to come.  How do we know God was in charge of this folly of man?
  • Proverbs 16:33 -
17.  Satan wanted the Jews destroyed and he tries to destroy all of God’s creation.  God, on the other hand, wants all His creation saved, and He has gone to the ultimate sacrifice to redeem mankind back to Himself.
  • John 10:10 -
  • John 3:16 -
  • 1 Peter 5:8
  • 2 Peter 3:9 -
18. That had to be a horrifying thing for the Jews to know their day of destruction that had been determined for them.  People need to realize that today, there is a day of "judgment" coming upon the world and only God knows when that day will come.  It is determined.  Although every person will have to give an account of the deeds done in their body, those written in the Lamb's Book of Life, will escape the second death and live forever in God's kingdom.  Will you escape the second death?  How can you be sure of it?  Comment on the following verses:
  • Matthew 12:36-41 -
  • Matthew 24:36 -
  • John 12:48 -
  • Acts 17:30,31 -
  • Romans 14:10,12 -
  • 2 Corinthians 5:10 -
  • Hebrews 9:27 -
  • 2 Peter 3:10-13 -
  • Revelation 20:11-13 -
19.  Summarize this lesson and post a prayer if you would like.

Applications:
29.  It was amazing how they spent an entire year on the beauty treatments for the women who had been chosen for the king's harem as he searched for a new queen to take the place of  Queen Vashti!  Today, there is still such am emphasis on girls to have "outer beauty".  It is seen in the magazines, the movies, the music, the fashions of our day.  According to the Bible, what should our emphasis be on and what does God say about us "just as we are"?
  • Psalm 139:14 - I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
  • 1 Samuel 16:7 -But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
  • Proverbs 31:30 - Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
  • 1 Peter 3:3,4 -Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. 4 Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.
  • 1 Timothy 4:8 - For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
God Made us  in His images and  that  is  the most beautiful  that  we need.  He loves  just as  we are  the outer  looks  only stay  for a season but  if  we Have God in our hearts then we  have  a beauty  that  will lasted  throughout  our lives  if we let  God shine  through.
30.  Esther took the advice of the one that was her authority in the harem named Hagei and we are told that Esther listened and did what her Uncle Mordecai told her to do.  She was a woman who respected authority.  What does the Bible teach us about respecting those who have authority over us?
  • Romans 13:1-7 -Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then
  • Ephesians 6:1-3 -Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise--3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth
  • 1 Timothy 2:1-4 - I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
  • 1 Timothy 4:12 -Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
  • 1 Timothy 5:1,2 - Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.
  • 1 Peter 2:11-17 - Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. 16 Live as free men,but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
  • 1 Peter 5:5 - Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

We  are to do what  is  right and listenand follow  our leaders as long  as  the leaders are  oing  what is  right in God's eyes.  this is  the  same for women that  have husbands  we are  to let  them  be  the head of the house but  if  we know  that  wait  they are telling us  to do is a sin then we don't  do it  but  don't  put  them down in front of others but  pray for them and let God lead them.
31.  Esther was chosen.  In the same way, the Bible teaches us that we did not choose God, our King, but He chose us!  Comment on the following verses and in the summary include how that makes you feel inside.
  • John 6:37, 44 -
  • John 15:16 -
  • Romans 8:28-30 -
  • Ephesians 1:3-5 -
  • Ephesians 1:11 -
  • Ephesians 2:8-10 -
  • Colossians 3:12-17 -
  • 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15 -
  • 1 Peter 2:9 -
32.  Summarize this lesson and post a prayer if you would like.
